A couple of years ago, after reading several petsafe wireless fence reviews online, I bought my wife a PetSafe wireless fence for her birthday.
Now, I can guess what your thinking. What kind of lame husband gets his wife a wireless dog fence for her birthday?
Well, that wasn't all I got her of course. But it gave her peace of mind that our knucklehead, long-haired Dachshund, Harley wouldn't escape our yard and be wandering the neighborhood.
She said it was one of the best gifts I have ever gave her. She said it showed that I really understood what was important to her. I wish I could do that good more often.
I had looked at buying a wireless fence for a good while. But at a cost of close to $300, I wasn't sure I was willing to make the committment. Then one evening, I left a gate open and before I realized it. Harley had taken off.
After about 3 hours of driving around and calling for him we decided we weren't going to be able to find him that night. My wife was both mad and extremely sad. Tears were flowing freely at the thought of Harley being injured, hungry, scared, or worse.
I went out on the porch one last time before going to bed and let out one of my high pithced whistles which is usually interpreted by kids and dogs alike as "I better get home". And what do you know. Harley came running around the house like nothing had happened.
I decided on the spot that I was going to give the PetSafe wireless instant fence a try. I really didn't want to go with an inground fence because I'm basically lazy and I also wanted something quick and portable.
I went online and found some good reviews in the usual places. Amazon had 250 Petsafe wireless reviews with 190 of those being 4 or 5 stars. The PetSafe site had another 96 reviews with 82% of those who purchased a wireless fence saying they would recommend it to a friend.
I personally found the reviews on Petco.com to be the most helpful. 88% of reviewers would recommend the product but they were also quick to point out how they thought the product could be made even better.
For me, the biggest downside to the PetSafe wireless containment system is the replacement battery that is required for the collar. You can only use the PetSafe RFA-67d 6 volt replacement batteries in the collar. I usually buy them at Lowe's or Tractor Supply. If you get a good, fresh battery it can last 3-4 months. If you end up with one that has been on the shelf for quite a while, you might only get a couple of months out of it.
I had the system positioned, the border flags set up, and the collar on my chosen setting in less than an hour and a half. Most of that was reading the manual and testing the range to give Harley as much room in the yard as possible.
My wife and I love our wireless fence. But you know who loves it most? Ole Harley! After his first correction for going past his boundry, he knows exactly where and how far he can go. He has the run of the place when he's outside and we don't have to worry about him getting into traffic or pulling an all nighter with the Chihuahua one street over.
The PetSafe wireless fence reviewsthat I found on line helped sell me on the fact that this was the system that we needed for our dog. And it's hard to put a price on the peace of mind that the PetSafe PIF-300 has brought us.
